Each year, Kang & Co Solicitors works with a regional or national charity to raise funds during that specific year. In previous years the law firm has supported Birmingham Dogs Home, Acorns Children’s Hospice, Sense and last year metal health charity Birmingham Mind.
For 2023 Kang & Co have partnered with homelessness charity, Shelter. The mission of the charity is to defend the right for people to have a safe home.
Shelter is a registered charity that campaigns for tenant rights in Great Britain. It gives advice, information and advocacy to people and lobbies government and local authorities for new laws and policies. It works in partnership with Shelter Cymru in Wales and the Housing Rights Service in Northern Ireland.
Shelter offer advice and support services on a one-to-one personal basis to help with housing issues and homeless. They have a free emergency helpline which is open all year round, to answer calls from anyone who is struggling with a housing issue or homelessness. They also have an in-house team of solicitors who provide free legal advice and attend Court to help people who have lost their homes or are facing eviction from their homes.
Kang & Co Solicitors director Manjinder Kang spoke about the law firms 2023 partnership with Shelter:
“It is a privilege to have Shelter as our fundraising charity partner for this year. In a time where the basic need of a safe roof above ones head seems to be harder to come by, Shelter’s work is extremely vital. Shelter have helped millions of people locally and nationally with housing issues and homelessness for over 50 years. The right to a safe home is a key principle for Shelter that we can certainly get behind.”
Regional Community Fundraiser (Birmingham) Fiona Conn of Shelter commented on the partnership and describes the important services and support that Shelter provide:
“By Kang and Co choosing us as their Charity of the Year, they will be supporting those facing homelessness locally, via the services we offer. Our services are designed to advise, guide and support people with all types of housing needs – whether it takes a short conversation or intensive support over several months. In the past few years our hub has supported people across the city through advice, support, legal cover and practical assistance, and we can only continue to do this with the support of fantastic organisations like this.”
