2026 Diversity and Inclusion Scheme just launched!

Birmingham Law Society (BLS) is proud to launch its 2026 Diversity and Inclusion Scheme (DIS).

BLS first launched its DIS in 2020 in order to support talented young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and under-represented backgrounds to pursue a career in law. The DIS seeks to address barriers to individuals accessing a career in law and help improve social mobility and diversity in the legal profession by supporting people who face obstacles in pursuing their ambitions in the legal sector.

BLS is pleased to continue partnering with The University of Law, The College of Legal Practice and Higgs LLP who’s continued support has been instrumental in maintaining the scheme’s success. This year, as we embark on the seventh year of the scheme, we also welcome a new partner, Devonshires.

The DIS 2026 seeks to provide successful candidates with financial support in pursuing their Legal Practice Course (LPC) or the Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE) studies as well as offering real work experience opportunities and vacation scheme placements as well as meaningful mentoring with our partner firms.

Sharon Thandi, member of the Birmingham Law Society Social Mobility sub-committee and lead for the scheme said: ““I am delighted that the Diversity and Inclusion Scheme is running for a further year. It is fantastic that Birmingham Law Society is continuing to support aspiring lawyers from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve their ambitions and make a valuable contribution to our thriving legal community. I would like to thank the Social Mobility Sub-Committee and our partner organisations for their support in providing this fantastic opportunity.”

Applications open on 30th April 2026 and close on 30th May 2026. For information, visit our website here.
