Join us for the next meeting of the Birmingham Law Society COLP/COFA Forum for a

SPRING REGULATORY ROUND UP.

Chaired by Jayne Willetts, Solicitor Advocate and BLS Professional Regulation Committee Member.

With guest speaker Tom Bedford, Partner with Clyde & Co focussing on professional indemnity claims.

A ‘soft’ PI insurance market often leads law firms to conclude that claim volumes are subdued and values are going down – but is that really the case? What are the next risks we are likely to see in claims against law firms? What sorts of claims are troubling firms now?

Tom will share his team’s experiences when it comes to defending claims, along with some useful risk management tips to help prevent or mitigate risks.

And to be joined by Rebecca Atkinson, formerly General Counsel and COLP at Howard Kennedy LLP, now with her own specialist risk and compliance firm McArthur Atkinson who will provide some updates for discussion to include:

  • the Ministry of Justice Interest on Lawyer’s Client Account Scheme,

  • the proposals set out in the SRA’s ‘Further consultation on client money in legal services: Protecting the client money that solicitors hold’ and

  • the recent costs awards made by the SDT against the SRA.

The sessions will be run under Chatham House rules so questions and frank discussion are encouraged.

Open to those serving as COLP; COFA; MLRO; MLCO; and those working in risk and compliance teams and/or senior management.

Very kindly hosted by Trowers & Hamlins. Tea, coffee and light refreshments will be provided.
