Domestic abuse - understanding coercive control and why it is always part of a survivor's experience
Date: Tuesday 18th February
Time: 12pm – 1pm
Where: Online via Microsoft Teams
Price: FREE for all to attend
Grab yourself some lunch and join Tracey Secker online for a lunchtime session as she discusses 'domestic abuse - understanding coercive control and why it is always part of a survivor's experience.'
She will give an overview of domestic abuse and types of abuse - domestic abuse isn't just physical. Coercive control is complex and she will discuss the things that can be used as part of this controlling tactic. Real examples and experiences will be shared. There will also be time for questions so that you can ask about situations you may have encountered or supported.
The aim of the session is to increase awareness of coercive control, show how recording experiences in detail is important and how coercive control can show an escalation of risk for further harm in a relationship. We will cover control around: finances, technology, all genders, suicide and pets.
Tracey Secker is the founder of Voices Enterprise - a non-profit organisation that works with survivors and other organisations to raise awareness of domestic abuse, trauma and other forms of abuse. Her lived experience of domestic abuse has given her the knowledge and insight to talk about the realities of domestic abuse, but this is coupled with extensive research to ensure all training is as current as possible. She also supports a number of other organisations who work in the domestic abuse sector and with survivors, including She Beasts (non-executive Director) and ManKind Initiative, our charities of the year. This session is free to attend but if you can donate what you can to our two charities of the year, this would be much appreciated. Please click on the charity names to donate.
