The Society’s Consultation Committee has responded to the SRA consultation on the Compensation Fund. The SRA is seeking to protect the Fund which has been overwhelmed in recent years with applications from those suffering loss as a result of dubious investment schemes.
The Committee’s Chair, Jayne Willetts stated:
“Whilst managing cost is a sensible objective, restricting eligibility to the Fund could damage trust and confidence in the profession. The Fund has always been seen as a key consumer protection, head and shoulders above other schemes. The SRA needs to tread carefully to maintain the reputation of the profession and ensure that it preserves this jewel in the crown of the profession”
