You are invited to join Birmingham Law Society for an evening in celebration of our legal community hosted by our President, Matt O'Brien. The President’s Dinner is a prestigious celebration which brings together leaders and influencers from Birmingham and beyond. The evening will commence with a drinks reception at 6.30pm, followed by a formal dinner with the opportunity for networking.
We're pleased to announce our keynote speaker, His Honour Judge Andrew Smith KC, Recorder of Birmingham.

Andrew Smith is the Recorder of Birmingham. Andrew was appointed as a Circuit Judge in September 2022 and as a Senior Circuit Judge, Resident Judge Birmingham Crown Court in July 2025. He sits at Birmingham Crown Court and hears cases involving serious crime including murder and terrorism.
Prior to his appointment as a full time judge, Andrew was a barrister in Birmingham specialising in criminal work. Andrew began his pupillage in 1997 at 1 Fountain Court and then became a member of St.Philips Chambers when the sets merged in 2002. He was appointed as a KC (silk) in 2012. As a barrister Andrew both prosecuted and defended in criminal trials, often involving allegations of child homicide and serious organised criminal activity. Andrew was the head of St.Philips Chambers, one of the largest sets of Barristers Chambers in England and Wales, between 2017 and 2020.
Andrew was appointed as a fee paid judge (a Recorder) in 2009 and sat in both criminal and civil work. He is also a tutor judge for the Judicial College.
We will be raising money during the evening for our President's chosen charity, Birmingham Mind.
