BLS responds to Legal Services Board Consultation

The Birmingham Law Society Consultation Committee has responded to the Legal Services Board consultation on the Board’s strategy for the legal services sector and its business plan for 2021-2022.

Jayne Willetts, Chair of the Committee, commented that:

“The Committee was broadly supportive of the laudable objectives proposed by the LSB. However, we were concerned that the Board should avoid “mission creep” and focus on its core roles such as improving the performance of the Legal Ombudsman and ensuring the delivery of high quality legal services. The Board’s suggestion for a 4.4% budget increase for 2021-2022 was also felt to be inappropriate in the current economic climate when so many firms and indeed their clients are suffering as a result of the pandemic.”
