Birmingham’s Legal Community to Join Together to Raise Money for Access to Justice Services in the Community

Members of the local legal profession will join forces on Monday 5th June for the Legal Walk to raise money for advice charities impacted by the cost-of-living crisis.

Legal professionals based in Birmingham will come together on Monday 5th June for the Birmingham Legal Walk to raise money for legal advice charities in the community. The after-work 5k walk is one of more than 20 walks taking place across the United Kingdom this summer to raise much needed money and awareness for advice services that play a vital role in helping vulnerable and disadvantaged people get access to justice.

The annual event sees participants from local law firms, chambers and in-house legal teams come together with local judges and members of the community walk together to raise thousands of pounds for their local advice services.

The 2023 Birmingham Legal Walk comes at a critical time for the regions specialist legal advice sector, which has been greatly impacted by the cost-of-living crisis. Many advice services have reported an unprecedented surge in demand from clients in desperate need of advice in areas such as debt, welfare, immigration, family, housing and employment law. Other services are facing a lack of resource and staff to deal with the level of enquiries and severe financial problems that could lead to their permanent closure.

Without these free services, thousands of people who are unable to afford the services of a lawyer will be unable to access the help and support they need to get the justice they deserve.

Anyone with an interest in access to justice is invited to join. Organisers are encouraging as many teams as possible to take part in the Birmingham Legal Walk this year, which is an enjoyable way to support and raise awareness for the free legal advice sector and the essential role it plays within the local community.

The event will start on Monday 5th June at 5.30pm (registration 5pm) from No.5 Barristers’ Chambers, Fountain Court, Steelhouse Lane. The walk will be approximately 5k and will be followed by a drinks reception at the finishing line – The Eagle & Ball on Gopsal St (opposite Millennium Point).
