Call for Applications: Deputy Vice President

The Birmingham Law Society invites applications from members interested in serving as Deputy Vice President.

This is an exciting opportunity for a member who is committed to the legal profession and the Birmingham legal community to become involved in the Society’s leadership and help shape its future direction.

The role of Deputy Vice President forms the first stage of the Society’s leadership succession process. The successful candidate will be expected to progress to the position of Vice President and subsequently President of the Birmingham Law Society in the following years, providing continuity of leadership and strategic direction for the Society.

As Deputy Vice President, the successful applicant will support the Society’s leadership team, represent the interests of members and contribute to the development and delivery of the Society’s objectives and activities.

Members wishing to be considered for the position are invited to submit an expression of interest by email, together with a written document (Word or PDF format) outlining their professional experience, involvement with the Society and reasons for seeking the role.

Applications should be addressed to Guy Barnett, Interim Chief Executive Officer, and submitted by Friday 10 July 2026 at 4pm via email to office@birminghamlawsociety.co.uk.

Applications will be considered by the Society’s Council at its meeting on 15 July 2026, when shortlisted candidates will be invited to address Council and answer any questions they may have. Following interview, Council will elect a candidate to the role.

The successful candidate will be formally appointed as Deputy Vice President at the Birmingham Law Society’s Annual General Meeting on 24 September 2026 and will ordinarily progress to the offices of Vice President in 2027 and President in 2028.

We encourage all interested members to apply for this significant leadership opportunity and play a key role in supporting and representing the Birmingham legal community.
