Mazars and the Birmingham Law Society Dispute Resolution Committee are hosting training sessions on understanding accounts and valuations.

Description
Session 1: (28 January, 8:00): Introduction to accounting
This will provide an overview of the components of a set of financial statements including an explanation of the audit report and the legislative requirements of company records.
Session 2: (26 February, 8:00): Introduction to business valuation
This will expand the knowledge learnt in Session 1 to explain subjective areas of accounts, what is meant by true and fair and common areas for warranty claims. We will also be discussing security for costs.
Session 3: (23 March, 8:00): Advanced accountancy information
This will provide an explanation of commonly used valuation methods including common shortfalls and subjective areas. We will also discuss the ability to sell a business and the appropriate expropriation of value.
Session 4: (29 April, 8:00): Fraud and professional negligence, presented in conjunction with Andrew Charman of St Philip's Chambers
The final session will discuss the duties of accountants and auditors and also the roleof accountants in identifying fraud. We will also discuss the process regarding fraud investigations and the use of forensic technology.
